systemically down

Tonight was the night of the System of a Down/Mars Volta concert. The two tickets I had were originally for Travis and I, but it ended up he forgot about it and had to go to a soccer game instead. So I called up Jon, and he drove in and we attended the concert. Some 'prog-rock' (?) band called Hella (I think) opened, and they were.... weird. Lots of noise, people playing over each other with no real discernable 'songs'.

Next up was Mars Volta, and the crowd seemed very excited for them to come out and play. They were amazing, and even did a few songs from Deloused. Drunkenships I especially enjoyed. I was a bit sad they didn't play Televators, I was really looking forward to hearing that one live.

Nearly 40 minutes later, the curtain goes up and then System of a Down takes the stage. They opened with BYOB, and played straight for almost an hour and a half. All the great songs, some I didn't recognise. I'm not 'down' with their new cd yet, as I haven't got around to buying it. I would have enjoyed Chop Suey more if Serge's voice was actually audible. Why must everyone sing at the top of their lungs to songs that they know the words to? Also, there was this girl who was sitting beside me for the first two bands, then standing beside me for System. Her version of dancing seemed to be bouncing up and down, and holding her hands out infront of her plaintively while singing off-key to the band.

As always, click on the pictures for a larger view. It was one hell of a concert, and now I'm all-kinds of tired.
